Casa Ruedero is close to the square in Lucainena De Las Torres, a rustic Andalucian village high in the Sierra Alhamilla on the edge of the Tabernas Desert, the only desert in Europe.
There are two double bedrooms and two shower rooms and a single bed in the study, so the house is ideal for one or two couples or a family of four.
The kitchen has an oven, hob, microwave, fridge freezer and breadmaker. In the first floor living room there's a TV, a DVD machine and surround sound. There's also a utility room on the ground floor with a washing machine.
You can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner on the large roof terrace, where there's an outdoor fridge so you don't have to head down to the kitchen every time you want a cool drink. The terrace is a sun trap for most of the year, with sun all day from dawn to dusk and a great view over the village and the surrounding hills and mountains. If it gets too hot for you there are shades you can pull over the top of the pergola to shelter underneath.
The local shop and some bars are just a short walk from the house.
The village swimming pool is a short stroll down the hill. It’s open from early June to mid September with a lifeguard present at all times and plenty of grass to sunbathe on.
Lucainena used to be a mining village but today is a community of farmers and olive and almond growers. At fiesta time it can get lively with bands and loud music but most of the time the soundtrack here is cockerels, donkeys, sparrows and the people of the village chatting on steps and benches.
Numerous beaches and seaside towns can be reached by car in 30 to 40 minutes. The best beaches run along the wild and rugged coast of the Cabo de Gata nature reserve, a natural park of hills and coves.
A short drive from Lucainena there are many other interesting places to explore such as the bizarre mountain-top village of Cabrera, picturesque Turrillas with its fantastic views over the Sorbas Basin, or the astronomic observatory, Calar Alto, located in Gérgal under some of the clearest skies in Europe.
There are plenty of movie locations to seek out nearby too. Over 400 films, including Lawrence of Arabia, Cleopatra, and Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade have all had scenes shot in the area, as did A Fistful of Dollars, For A Few Dollars More, and The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. There are three film sets just a few kilometres from Lucainena: Oasys Mini Hollywood (with a large zoo), Fort Bravo and Western Leone.
The climate here is hot and sunny for most of the year. The air is crisp and clear. In the summer the temperature stays very high late into the evening and early morning so you can comfortably sit outside well into the night.
